Video: Hitachi sees $7.8 bln loss

Japan's top electronics maker, Hitachi, is likely to post a record 7.8 billion dollar net loss this year, the worst by a manufacturer in the nation's history. The maker of everything from rice cookers to nuclear reactors has shifted from a mild profit outlook to a 4.1 billion dollar (USD) loss for the first nine months of the year, announced Tuesday, with the full year expected to be even worse.

Profits were sharply lower at toy company Mattel, maker of Barbie dolls, as recession-battered consumers and a stronger dollar hurt global sales in the fourth quarter.
